No. An employee must be auto enrolled into the qualifying pension scheme initially and have been provided with the relevant statutory notices from the employer before they can opt of the pension scheme.
After opting out, an employee can request to be re-joined to the scheme. They must inform their employer in writing if they want to do so.
However if the individual has already asked to join a pension scheme within the previous 12 months and subsequently stopped membership, the employer is not obliged to re-enrol them into the scheme, although they can choose to do so if they wish.
